meghan_ory_1984721014

The Memory Book is a new Hallmark Movie Channel original that will premiere on Saturday July 26th at 9/8c. The movie follows Chloe (Meghan Ory), a budding photographer who comes from a family of failed romances. At a local flea market, she stumbles upon an old photo album from the 1970s, chronicling the ideal romance of a happy couple played by Art Hindle and Adrienne Barbeau.

Unable to find her own "true love," she sets out to find the couple in the album and prove that true love exists. Along the way, she meets Gabe Sinclair (Luke Macfarlane), a mysterious, but charming bartender, who seizes the opportunity to join Chloe's mission and soon finds himself falling in love with her. Thus we go on an adventure with Chloe and Gabe as they set out to find who the people are in the memory book and at the same time, they both learn something about each other.

Meghan Ory was kind enough to sit down with the Pop Culture Principle to discuss her character Chloe, the adventure her character embarks on and how she too has her own memory book.

Interview: Amy Gumenick

amy-gumenick-29362

In a short period of time, actress Amy Gumenick has built an impressive resume of film and television credits. The Swedish born actress graduated from the University California at Santa Barbara in 2008, earning a BFA in theatre with an emphasis in acting. She’s made memorable appearances on television shows such as Grimm, Rules of Engagement, Grey’s Anatomy and Castle. She became a fan favorite playing Mary Winchester on the hit series Supernatural. In a memorable performance, Amy took on the role of Natalee Holloway in the Lifetime television movie Natalee Holloway.

Currently she can be seen on the AMC hit series Turn which was just renewed for a second season. Amy was kind enough to sit down with us to discuss Turn, being a part of the Supernatural universe, diversity in her work and gives some sound advice for those looking to become actors.

Pop Culture Principle – Can you tell us what Turn is about?

Amy Gumenick – Turn is a Revolutionary War drama that tells the story of George Washington’s first spy ring. It gives a closer, more in-depth look into the people who formed the United States of America and what it is today. The writers have done an amazing job at capturing the historical accuracy of that time period, and making it accessible and interesting to a broader audience by their own level of drama. In doing so, it just doesn’t attract the history buffs out there but is enjoyable, entertaining and educational for everyone, regardless of what you know about the Revolutionary War. There have been lots of films that have tried to capture that. There are bits and pieces that we learn about in school and that we see in the media, but Turn gives more of an up close and personal, behind-the-scenes view of what that time period was for our country.

Interview - Pascale Hutton

S3Krista1

Canadian born actress Pascale Hutton is definitely carving out her place in Hollywood. The Gemini and Leo award winning actress has spent the last several years building an impressive resume in film and television. She’s had memorable roles on hit shows such as Sanctuary, Flashpoint and Intelligence. She has also had guest appearances on series such as Supernatural, Fringe and Royal Pains.

Pascale starred as Krista Ivarson on the hit Canadian series Arctic Air which ran three seasons on the CBC network. On the big screen she’s starred in films such as Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, A Simple Curve and The Art of War II: Betrayal.

A graduate of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, she currently stars on the hit Hallmark series When Calls The Heart playing the somewhat misunderstood Rosemary LeVeaux. Pascale was kind enough to sit down with us to talk about her current series, playing strong, independent characters and what she likes to do to relax.

Pop Culture Principle - You recently worked on When Calls the Heart. How was that experience?

Pascale Hutton – It was great. I love that character so much. It’s very different from what I normally play. I had just wrapped season three of Arctic Air where I play a very strong, forthright female character. She is very confident, very decisive and keeps her emotions very close to her heart. So, to go from that to When Calls The Heart which is so light and full and the character is larger than life was such a welcome change. You know, you play the same types of characters for a while it’s fun to shake things up and that is what this character was for me on When Calls the Heart.

Interview: Fiona Gubelmann

The hit FXX series Wilfred will begin its fourth and final season this Wednesday June 25th at 10pmEST. The series follows Ryan (Elijah Wood), who is a guy struggling to find his place in the world until he meets his neighbor Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann) and her dog Wilfred (Jason Gann). Everyone else sees Wilfred as just an ordinary dog except for Ryan. Ryan sees an Australian guy in a grey dog suit who loves to smoke pot and cause mischief. The show has been a winner for the FXX network and one of the reasons for that success is the work of Fiona Gubelmann.

Fiona sat down with the Pop Culture Principle to talk about the journey her character has taken so far on the series, working with Elijah and Jason and what fans can look forward to in the final season. She also discusses how important the fans have been to the success of the series.

Pop Culture Principle – For those who haven’t seen the show, can you tell us what Wilfred is about?

Fiona Gubelmann – Wilfred is a dark comedy that is somewhat like a Calvin & Hobbs come to life type show. It’s basically a buddy comedy where Elijah Wood’s character Ryan sees his next door neighbor's dog as this big Australian dude in a grey dog suit. He can talk to him and go off on these crazy adventures while everyone else sees him just as a regular dog.

Interview: Camille Balsamo

3499098-0

Actress Camille Balsamo will remember June 9, 2014 as a very special day in her career. First up, the long awaited trailer for the Kickstarter funded, practical effects film Harbinger Down will be released. The film was written and directed by her father Alec Gillis and she will star opposite acting legend Lance Henriksen. On that same day is the series premiere of her new TNT series Murder in the First which stars Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson.

The talented actress took time out of her schedule to talk with us about both projects, what it’s like working with her father and why making your own path instead of waiting to make it in the business is the way to go.

Pop Culture Principle - How did you become involved with the Harbinger Down project?

Camille Balsamo – Well, my dad is actually Alec Gillis who is the writer and director of the movie. He has known that I wanted to act since I was 9 years old. Both he and my mom said that I had to stay in school and that I really couldn’t pursue acting until I finished college. So, I graduated college and moved back to Los Angeles where I grew up and started taking classes, auditioning and making my own little projects here and there. When the opportunity presented itself to do a Kickstarter, of course he enlisted my help and I was more than happy to participate so that we could get the project off the ground. It’s been a dream come true for us. We’ve wanted to work together on a movie for fifteen years.

Interview: Crystal Lowe

photo-700x700

Signed, Sealed, Delivered has become a breakout hit for the Hallmark Channel and one of the reasons the show has become a hit with its fans is actress Crystal Lowe. Crystal plays Rita Haywith, the lovable, sweet member of the dead letters team who has a photographic memory. The show has received high praise from both fans and critics alike.

Over the years, Crystal has built a solid resume of work including films such as Black Christmas, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Final Destination 3 and Insomnia. On the small screen, she has appeared on popular shows like Smallville, Primeval: New World, Supernatural, Psych and Da Vinci's Inquest.

Crystal sits down with us to talk about playing Rita on Signed, Sealed, Delivered, working with several acting legends on the series and what fans can expect for the rest of the season.

Pop Culture Principle – What drew you to the project Signed, Sealed, Delivered?

Crystal Lowe – There are a couple of things. Martha Williamson by far is number one. She is someone that I am so excited to be working with. She is an incredible woman and role model for me. Her writing has made my life simple because all I have to do is show up and the words just flow out of my mouth. The other thing is that I really wanted to give a hand at comedy and Rita gets to be funny sometimes. So for me, one of the most exciting things is that I got to flex my comedic chops.

Interview: Lacey Chabert

Lacey-Chabert-wallpaper-2013-07

Color of Rain is the best-selling book and true story of Michael and Gina Spehn. Each lost their spouse to cancer six weeks apart and out of their tragedy, they found each other. Color of Rain premieres May 31st at 9pmEST on the Hallmark Channel. The movie stars Lacey Chabert and Warren Christie.

Lacey was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to talk about Color of Rain, meeting the Spehns and what she personally took away from working on this project.

Pop Culture Principle – Where you aware of Michael & Gina’s story before you became involved with this project?

Lacey Chabert – Honestly, I wasn’t. They sent me the script and right away I went out and purchased the book because I wanted to read the book first. I watched a few of their appearances on television and I really fell in love with them as people. They are really funny and the fact that they were able to pick up their lives and find each other and navigate through this grief and find such hope, it was really inspiring. I was really honored to tell their story.
