Artists To Watch - Exclusive Interview With Alus

554753_350489805032209_2031982254_nAaliyah once sang  "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number", and that definitely rings true with singer Alus. It's sort of ironic since one of Alus's favorite singers is the late Aaliyah. Born and raised in New Jersey, Alus was surrounded by music at an early age. Growing up with a strong connection to music, her musical bloodline runs deep. Her grandmother, a Juilliard graduate, was once a renowned musician in the Violinaires, a group of violinists that regularly performed with Frank Sinatra’s The Rat Pack. Her influences in her music and style are a who's who of music legends, from Billie Holiday to Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Pat Benatar, Aretha Franklin, Elton Jon, and Mariah Carey.

boardwalk_empire_buscemi_sphinx_a_lFollowing the hit series’ fourth-season debut on Sept. 8, HBO has renewed BOARDWALK EMPIRE for a fifth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

"Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, BOARDWALK EMPIRE remains in a class by itself,” said Lombardo.  “I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

BOARDWALK EMPIRE continues to be one of HBO’s most-watched original programs, with an average gross audience of 7.5 million viewers this season.

The series recently received five Emmy® Awards, the most of any series in the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy® Awards competition, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Bobby Cannavale); Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series; Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour); and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.

'Mad Men' Final Season Gets Episode Increase, Will Air In Two Parts

tv-mad-men-review.jpeg1-1280x960AMC announced today that the final season of the Lionsgate series Mad Men will be expanded to 14 episodes and equally portioned with seven episodes airing in spring of 2014 (“The Beginning”) and the final seven episodes of this iconic series (“The End of an Era”) airing in the spring of 2015. “This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with Breaking Bad which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second half premiere than had watched any previous episode,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “We are determined to bring Mad Men a similar showcase.  In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes than remain of this iconic series.” “We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience,” said Matthew Weiner, creator and executive producer, Mad Men. “The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience.” "Mad Men has had a transcendent impact on our popular culture, and it has played a prominent role in building our Lionsgate brand," said Kevin Beggs, Chairman, Lionsgate Television Group. “We anticipate a remarkable seventh season thanks to the brilliance of Matthew Weiner, the entire creative and production team, and our tremendous partnership with AMC.  We’re all working to ensure that the series will have the kind of powerful send-off it so richly deserves.” The first half of the final season of Mad Men will premiere on AMC this spring. Since the series premiere in 2007, “Mad Men” has become one of television’s most honored shows.  The show has earned six Emmy® Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series leading to four wins for Outstanding Drama Series.  Additional honors for the series includes:  three Golden Globe® Awards for Best Television Drama Series; a Peabody Award; three Producers Guild Awards; four Writers Guild Awards; two BAFTA Awards; five Television Critics Association Awards including Program of the Year, and being named five years running to AFI’s Top 10 Outstanding Television Programs. SyFy-imaginegreater-WIDE-560x280A new breed of werewolves is coming to Syfy with the acquisition of the first season of the new Canadian scripted series Bitten from leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne). Season 1 of Bitten, consisting of 13 one-hour episodes, will premiere on Syfy in 2014. Based on the New York Times best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels by Kelley Armstrong, Bitten is an emotionally charged supernatural thriller starring Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena (Vandervoort) has abandoned her Pack and taken refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. When bodies start turning up in her Pack’s backyard, Elena finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain. Torn between two worlds and two loves, she quickly realizes that – when push comes to shove – she’ll stop at nothing to defend her Pack. “Bitten is a fantastic blend of supernatural action, intense thrills, smouldering drama and a tortured love story that artfully adapts characters beloved for more than a decade by millions of readers around the world,” said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Programming, Syfy. “It’s an excellent complement to our roster of programming and we cannot wait to share Elena, her Pack and their stories with the Syfy audience.” “Our partners at No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne have brought to life a sexy and suspenseful new series and we are delighted Syfy has found it equally as compelling for their audience,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “With a strong female lead at its core, we know audiences on both sides of the border will be rabid followers of Bitten.” Commented Carrie Stein, eOne Television, EVP, Global Production, “The eOne team responded enthusiastically to Bitten because it’s a strong genre piece with a unique premise – the first female werewolf in a pack of men!  It’s a sexy, action-packed drama with a love triangle at the center – all very appealing to the global audience!” Bitten also stars Greg Bryk (A History Of Violence, Rookie Blue) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz, Durham County) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List, Wicked Wicked Games) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

AMC Developing Companion Series To 'The Walking Dead'

walkingdeadAMC announced today that the network is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to its original drama series The Walking Dead, which premiered on AMC in October of 2010. The Walking Dead is currently the #1 show on television among adults 18-49. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are on board as executive producers, with AMC Studios set to produce. The companion series has a target on-air date of 2015. “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.” “After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” said Kirkman. “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.” In addition to Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels and Low Winter Sun, AMC recently greenlit two new drama series for 2014, Halt & Catch Fire and Turn. The network today began shooting a new pilot, Line Of Sight, directed and executive produced by Jonathan Demme, and has a licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Television for a spinoff series of Vince Gilligan’s landmark Breaking Bad, based on the Saul Goodman lawyer character with the working title Better Call Saul. Season four of The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 13. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series created and written by Robert Kirkman and published by Skybound,
