Syfy Greenlights 'Dominion' To Series For 2014

SyFy-imaginegreater-WIDE-560x280The ultimate celestial battle between good and evil will descend to Earth in 2014 as Syfy officially greenlights the scripted drama Dominion (working title) to series, it was announced today by Syfy President, Dave Howe. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions and BOLD Films, and filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. “Following the critical success of ‘Defiance’ and the upcoming Ron Moore thriller ‘Helix,’ ‘Dominion’ will be the next major addition to Syfy’s growing slate of high quality scripted series,” said Howe in making the announcement. ”‘Dominion’ will continue Syfy’s new strategy to commission stand-out genre series that deliver the high stakes, sci-fi/fantasy experience our audience demands and embraces.” Based on characters from the hit theatrical film Legion (2010), Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. In this transformed post–apocalyptic future an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel. Rising out of the ashes of the 25 year-long battle are newly fortified cities which protect the human survivors. In Vega (formerly Las Vegas), the largest of these cities, two houses vie for control and the stage is set for political upheaval and a dangerous power shift. Meanwhile, a rebellious young soldier begins a perilous journey as the war between the human race and the fallen angels hell-bent on their domination escalates. Dominion stars Christopher Egan (Kings), Tom Wisdom (300), Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones), Alan Dale (Lost), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Luke Allen-Gale (The Borgias). Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed Legion, directed the pilot and is one of the project’s Executive Producers. Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who produced the film Legion, are also Executive Producers. Vaun Wilmott wrote the pilot and will also serve as Executive Producer on the series. Film Afrika serves as the local production entity in South Africa.

'Californication' To End It's Run After Seventh And Final Season

califoria0SHOWTIME viewers will take one last romp with Hank Moody when the hit comedy series’ seventh season premieres in April 2014 (date TBD), it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. The final 12 episodes will neatly wrap up our unforgettable time following Hank (David Duchovny), Karen (Natascha McElhone), Becca (Madeleine Martin), Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy (Pamela Adlon) in their audacious comic mis-adventures and sexcapades. “With its unique blend of lyricism and excess, CALIFORNICATION has been one of our groundbreaking signature series,” said David Nevins. “We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody. Tom has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank’s journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and long-time fans alike.” Created and executive produced by Tom Kapinos, CALIFORNICATION stars David Duchovny (also an executive producer) in his Golden Globe®-winning role as the hedonistic writer who fights to balance the demands of his insatiable libido, unpredictable career, ex-girlfriend/muse Karen and beloved daughter Becca. He’s aided (and sometimes abetted) by best friend/agent Charlie and Charlie’s bawdy wife Marcy. Over the course of its run, the series has been honored withmany accolades, including five Emmy® nominations and two wins, six Golden Globe nominations and one win, and a Screen Actors Guild® Award nomination. CALIFORNICATION had its highest-rated season ever with season six last year averaging 2.9 million weekly viewers across platforms.  An incredibly consistent performer for the network, the series grew steadily over its six seasons on the air, and last year saw a growth of over 20 percent On Demand as well. From his debut in August 2007, Hank Moody quickly became everyone’s favorite unflinchingly honest, self-destructive lothario who bowed at the altar of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll. The final season will find him joining the writer’s room as his never-released film “Santa Monica Cop” now becomes a television series of the same name. He’s riled frequently by his boss, the show’s old-school executive producer Rick Rath (guest star Michael Imperioli), and his fellow writing team members, including Goldie (guest star Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Alonzo (co-star Alonzo Bodden). But he’s thrown by the reemergence of old friend Julia (guest star Heather Graham), whose arrival causes chaos in Hank’s already hectic life, and with his on-off relationship with Karen (McElhone). Meanwhile, Charlie (Handler) and Marcy (Adlon) grapple with the aftermath of their reunion and an enticing offer from her ex-husband, Stu Beggs (guest star Stephen Tobolowsky). Rob Lowe, Brandon T. Jackson, Oliver Cooper and Mercedes Masohn will also guest star.

HBO Announces Debut For New Series 'Looking'

hboPatrick, Agustín and Dom are close friends living in the progressive city of San Francisco. Against the backdrop of the Bay Area, they explore the exciting and varied options available to a new generation of gay men, seeking fulfillment in love and life. From collaborators Michael Lannan and Andrew Haigh, the half-hour series LOOKING takes a frank look at the experiences of the three men when the show kicks off its eight-episode season SUNDAY, JAN. 19 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. The series stars Jonathan Groff (“Spring Awakening,” HBO’s upcoming “The Normal Heart”) as Patrick, along with Frankie J. Alvarez (“Smash”) as Agustín and Murray Bartlett (“August”) as Dom. Friendship may bind the three, but each is at a markedly different point in his journey. Patrick is a 29-year old video game designer getting back into the dating world after his ex’s engagement. Though surprised by how challenging it is to find a partner, he knows he always has his friends to rely on should his efforts go astray. Agustín, 31, agrees to move in with his long-term boyfriend in Oakland, but is apprehensive about monogamy and the prospect of choosing domesticity over the energy of city life. At 39, Dom is the oldest of the group and is daunted by the success of an old flame, as well as the approach of middle age with romantic and professional goals still unfulfilled. San Francisco is the fourth character in LOOKING, its presence intertwined with the stories of the three friends. Shot in more than 40 locations in a variety of neighborhoods, the series delves into the city beyond the Golden Gate Bridge, embracing the real San Francisco, from the expense of city living and cramped apartments to the unique natural light and rides on the Muni.
