Interview: Crystal Lowe

photo-700x700

Signed, Sealed, Delivered has become a breakout hit for the Hallmark Channel and one of the reasons the show has become a hit with its fans is actress Crystal Lowe. Crystal plays Rita Haywith, the lovable, sweet member of the dead letters team who has a photographic memory. The show has received high praise from both fans and critics alike.

Over the years, Crystal has built a solid resume of work including films such as Black Christmas, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Final Destination 3 and Insomnia. On the small screen, she has appeared on popular shows like Smallville, Primeval: New World, Supernatural, Psych and Da Vinci's Inquest.

Crystal sits down with us to talk about playing Rita on Signed, Sealed, Delivered, working with several acting legends on the series and what fans can expect for the rest of the season.

Pop Culture Principle – What drew you to the project Signed, Sealed, Delivered?

Crystal Lowe – There are a couple of things. Martha Williamson by far is number one. She is someone that I am so excited to be working with. She is an incredible woman and role model for me. Her writing has made my life simple because all I have to do is show up and the words just flow out of my mouth. The other thing is that I really wanted to give a hand at comedy and Rita gets to be funny sometimes. So for me, one of the most exciting things is that I got to flex my comedic chops.

Kevin Reilly To Step Down As Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company

Kevin_Reilly

Kevin Reilly announced today that he will depart Fox Broadcasting Company by the end of June.

“21st Century Fox is a great company that has provided me with choice seats at the head table of pop culture over two very rewarding stints both at FBC and FX, and I am grateful to have benefitted from the leadership of Peter Rice, Chase Carey and Rupert Murdoch,” said Reilly. “Peter and I have been discussing this transition for a while, and now with a robust new slate of programming for next season and strength in the FBC ranks, it felt like the timing was as right as it could be. I couldn't be more thankful to my team – a group of creative, tireless and fun people whose fellowship I will miss.”

Peter Rice, Chairman and CEO of Fox Networks Group, said, “Kevin’s undeniable creative gift and passion for talent have left an indelible mark on our company, and we’re extremely grateful to him for his leadership, beginning with ‘The Shield’ and ‘Nip/Tuck’ at FX and continuing through GLEE, NEW GIRL, THE FOLLOWING, SLEEPY HOLLOW and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE at FOX. Kevin and I have been discussing his desire for a new challenge for some time, so while everyone at the network will miss his enthusiasm for adventurous television, we all respect his decision and agreed that after the upfront presentation was the right time. I’m personally extremely grateful to Kevin for his partnership during the past five years and look forward to working with him again in the future.”

During the transition period, before naming a replacement, Reilly’s senior executives will report to Rice.

Reilly, who joined FOX in 2007 and was named Chairman of Entertainment in 2012, has distinguished himself as a force in both cable and broadcast television, leading FOX to five of its eight consecutive winning seasons and shepherding seminal hits like GLEE, “The Sopranos,” “The Office” and “ER.” Under his leadership, the network launched Golden Globe Award-winning comedy BROOKLYN NINE-NINE; Emmy Award-nominated and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon GLEE; this season’s breakout hit drama SLEEPY HOLLOW; as well as Emmy Award-nominated NEW GIRL, THE FOLLOWING and THE MINDY PROJECT.

Marilyn Manson Scores Recurring Role On 'Sons Of Anarchy'

Marilyn-Manson-marilyn-manson-29937716-1500-1000

Marilyn Manson has been cast in FX’s hit show Sons of Anarchy as “Ron Tully,” a white supremacist prison shot-caller who Jax uses to expand his power base.

Marilyn Manson is known, by most, for selling millions of records, being a successful writer, painter, performer and provocateur. He has also made many cameos in films and television.

With the creation of a new album and while launching a world tour, he grabbed the attention of SOA creator, Kurt Sutter.

"Sons has been such a big part of my life, as well as my father's,” said Manson. “So I was determined to make him proud by being involved in what will probably be remembered as the most amazing piece of television cinema. After all, the very heart of SOA is about that relationship. So, now all I need is a motorcycle."

Danny McBride Returns To HBO In 'Vice Principals'

danny-mcbride

Danny McBride, star of the hit HBO comedy series “Eastbound & Down,” will return to the network in the comedy series VICE PRINCIPALS, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. The show is slated for 18 episodes, with the debut date and number of episodes per season to be announced as they are confirmed.

“Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created a smart, rowdy and unpredictable style of comedy that we can’t get enough of,” said Lombardo. “The idea of them setting their minds on high school was irresistible.”

“HBO was the perfect creative family for ‘Eastbound & Down,’ and we’re excited to pack up the van for the next adventure,” notes McBride.

“When the idea for the new series became too crazy to keep to ourselves, we knew HBO was the perfect place to unleash it,” says executive producer David Gordon Green.

Created by Danny McBride and Jody Hill, who were also the creators of “Eastbound & Down,” VICE PRINCIPALS tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it, the vice principals.

Concluding its four-season run on HBO in 2013, “Eastbound & Down” starred McBride as irrepressible former major league pitcher Kenny Powers.

VICE PRINCIPALS is executive produced by Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green and Stephanie Laing, who were also executive producers of “Eastbound & Down.”

Interview: Lacey Chabert

Lacey-Chabert-wallpaper-2013-07

Color of Rain is the best-selling book and true story of Michael and Gina Spehn. Each lost their spouse to cancer six weeks apart and out of their tragedy, they found each other. Color of Rain premieres May 31st at 9pmEST on the Hallmark Channel. The movie stars Lacey Chabert and Warren Christie.

Lacey was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to talk about Color of Rain, meeting the Spehns and what she personally took away from working on this project.

Pop Culture Principle – Where you aware of Michael & Gina’s story before you became involved with this project?

Lacey Chabert – Honestly, I wasn’t. They sent me the script and right away I went out and purchased the book because I wanted to read the book first. I watched a few of their appearances on television and I really fell in love with them as people. They are really funny and the fact that they were able to pick up their lives and find each other and navigate through this grief and find such hope, it was really inspiring. I was really honored to tell their story.

Interview: Jason Gotay

jasongotayheadshot-e1333466051272

The Anthem has been described as a sci-fi musical inspired by Ayn Rand's novella Anthem. The production features a book by Gary Morgenstein, music by Jonnie Rockwell, and lyrics by Erik Ransom. One of the stars of the off-broadway musical is Jason Gotay. His credits include Fking Up Everything, Bring It On: The Musical and Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark. The Anthem will start its run on May 20th at the Lynn Redgrave Theatre.

In The Anthem, Jason’s character Prometheus fights to overthrow the State and pursue his love of science. Fans who attend the musical will definitely be in for one heck of a ride with The Anthem. Jason sat down with us to talk about his new musical, his process for preparing for a role and advice to any up and coming actor who is looking to work on Broadway.

Pop Culture Principle – You have a new exciting new project called The Anthem. Can you tell us what attracted you to the project?

Jason Gotay – If I’m being completely honest, I had worked with our director Rachel Klein on a reading of another rock musical a little over a year ago. I knew she was attached to this project and she called me and had me in mind for this role. The idea of working with her was really exciting to me because I am a huge fan of her work, not only working with her in the past, but also seeing other full productions that she has worked on. She is very creative, innovate, smart and really funny. She sent me a copy of the script and when I read The Anthem for the first time, I was really drawn to the character of Prometheus. He goes through a huge journey in the show and he gets to show a lot of colors which is always really exciting for an actor. Also, once I found out who else was involved and the other amazing people I would get to work with, I was really excited to jump on board.
