AMC greenlights two new scripted series

“Halt & Catch Fire” From AMC Studios, Created by Chris Cantwell & Chris Rodgers,

Executive Producer Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” Diner, Rain Man)

and Melissa Bernstein (“Breaking Bad”)

“Turn” From AMC Studios, Written by Craig Silverstein (“Nikita”)

Executive Producer Barry Josephson (“Bones,” Enchanted)

AMC announced today pilot orders for scripted dramas “Halt & Catch Fire” and “Turn.” Production on both is scheduled for 2013. This announcement comes on the heels of the network’s last round of pilot orders for “Low Winter Sun” and the “Untitled LaGravenese/Tony Goldwyn project,” both of which recently completed production. “These additional pilot orders demonstrate AMC's investment in our original scripted programming,” said Susie Fitzgerald, AMC’s SVP of scripted development and current programming. “Both of these projects take the audience into unique worlds through compelling characters told with an original voice. We are so fortunate to be working with such exceptional talent on both of these projects.” Set in the early 1980s, “Halt & Catch Fire” dramatizes the personal computing boom through the eyes of a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy whose innovations directly confront the corporate behemoths of the time. Their personal and professional partnership will be challenged by greed and ego while charting the changing culture in Texas' Silicon Prairie. From AMC Studios, “Halt & Catch Fire” is created by Chris Cantwell and Chris Rodgers. Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad,” Diner, Rain Man) and Melissa Bernstein (“Breaking Bad”) from Gran Via Productions serve as executive producers. Based on the book “Washington’s Spies,” written by Alexander Rose, “Turn” is set in the summer of 1778 and tells the story of  New York farmer, Abe Woodhull, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America’s fight for independence. “Turn,” also from AMC Studios, is written by showrunner Craig Silverstein (“Nikita”) and executive produced by Barry Josephson (“Bones,” Enchanted) from Josephson Entertainment. AMC’s EVP of original programming, production and digital content Joel Stillerman, Susie Fitzgerald, and Jason Fisher, SVP of production, will oversee the pilots’ development and production.

FX's new drama The Americans - First look!

FX has had a pretty impressive track record with original dramas. Shows like The Shield, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, Sons of Anarchy and American Horror Story have all received critical acclaim and have also been big hits for the network. Well, FX is looking to keep that trend going with a brand new series called The Americans. The series stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and has received a 13 episode order to start in January 2013.

The Americans’ takes place in the early 1980s following  Elizabeth Jennings, one half of a KGB-arranged marriage planted within suburban Washington D.C., and increasingly tested by the Cold War’s escalation, and the “dangerous and darkly funny” relationships they maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control.  Along the way, spies Elizabeth and Philip Jennings find their fake relationship growing more passionate and genuine on a daily basis.

CW announces premiere of The Carrie Diaries

The CW today announced that the new 1980s-era drama, THE CARRIE DIARIES, will have its series premiere on Monday, January 14 (8:00-9:00p.m. ET). That same night, 90210 will slide to its new 9:00-10:00 p.m. timeslot on Monday. The week of January 14 will also see the majority of The CW’s primetime series return from the holiday break with all-new original episodes. THE CARRIE DIARIES takes place in 1984, where life is not easy for 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw. Since their mother passed away, Carrie’s younger sister Dorritt is more rebellious than ever, and their father Tom is overwhelmed with the responsibility of suddenly having to care for two teenage girls on his own. Carrie’s friends – sweet, geeky Mouse, sarcastic and self-assured Maggie and sensitive Walt – make life bearable, but a suburban life in Connecticut isn’t doing much to take her mind off her troubles. And even though the arrival of a sexy new transfer student named Sebastian brings some excitement to Carrie’s world, she is struggling to move on from her grief. So when Tom offers Carrie the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, she leaps at the chance. Carrie’s eyes are opened wide at the glamour and grit of New York City – and when she meets Larissa, the style editor for Interview magazine, she’s inspired by the club culture and unique individuals that make up Larissa’s world. Carrie’s friends and family may have a big place in her heart, but she’s fallen in love for the first time with the most important man in her life – Manhattan. The series stars AnnaSophia Robb (“Soul Surfer”) as Carrie Bradshaw; Stefania Owen (“Running Wilde,” “The Lovely Bones”) as Dorrit Bradshaw; Ellen Wong (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Combat Hospital”) as Mouse; Katie Findlay (“The Killing,” “SGU Stargate Universe”) as Maggie; Chloe Bridges (“90210”) as Donna; Austin Butler (“Switched at Birth,” “Life Unexpected”) as Sebastian; Brendan Dooling (“An Elf’s Story: The Elf on the Shelf”) as Walt; Freema Agyeman (“Doctor Who,” “Law & Order: UK”) as Larissa and Matt Letscher (“Brothers and Sisters,” “Entourage”) as Tom. Based on the novels by Candace Bushnell, THE CARRIE DIARIES is from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Fake Empire, with executive producers Josh Schwartz (“Hart of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Stephanie Savage (“Hart of Dixie,” “Gossip Girl”), Len Goldstein (“Hart of Dixie”) Amy B. Harris (“Gossip Girl”) and Candace Bushnell.
