EMPIRE)

Today at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour, it was FOX's turn to take the stage and talk about the future plans for the network.

What seems like a no brainer, the network has ordered a second season of its hit freshman series Empire starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. In its first two airings, the series has done extremely well for the network. Both outings it has built on the lead-in audience from American Idol.

gracepoint

It looks like the case it truly closed for FOX's Gracepoint.

According to TVLine, the network will not be moving forward with another season of the low rated series. Although it was billed as a "limited series", the creators behind the show did have plans for a second season.

The series premiered to a disappointing 4.8 million viewers and a 1.2 in the key 18-49 demographic. it's series finale didn't fair much better with 4 million viewers and a 0.9.

'Red Band Society' Pulled From The FOX Schedule

red-band-society

Looks like FOX is pulling the plug on its highly promoted freshman drama series.

According to Deadline, the network has decided not to order more episodes beyond the original thirteen episodes. Production will halt in mid-December and the final episode to air will be the fall finale scheduled for December 3rd. Right now there is no word on what will happen with the final three finished episodes of the series.

Red Band Society followed a group of teenagers living together as patients in a hospital's pediatric ward. The show has not been the breakout hit that FOX was looking for and at best, it's ratings have been modest.

Michael Ealy Joins 'The Following' Cast

michael-ealy-gold-background-062-400x295

Fans are about to witness the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to an actor.

TVLine first reported that Michael Ealy will join the cast in season three as the main bad guy. His character is described as a “brilliant, chameleon-like” murderer who’ll test Ryan Hardy’s limits,

Michael was last seen on the small screen in the short lived FOX sci-fi drama Almost Human. He played the caring and sympathetic android Dorian. The network decided to cancel the show after thirteen episodes, but that hasn't stopped fans of Almost Human to start a petition to get the show back on the air. Whether that will happen will remain to be seen, but for now fans will have to settle for Ealy's upcoming work on The Following.

FOX Orders More 'Mindy Project'

The_Mindy_Project

There seems to be a little angel looking out for the Mindy Project. FOX announced that it has ordered six more episodes for the struggling comedy.

Originally, FOX announced a 15 episode third season for the series, but this additional episode order brings the total to 21 episodes and a hair away from a full season.

In it's third season, the comedy is averaging a 1.6 in the all important 18-49 demographic and 3.1 million viewers, which also includes seven days of DVR playback numbers.

Some may be scratching their heads when it comes to the additional episode order, but FOX is quick to point out that the show's ratings increase 99 percent when you include 30 days of playback across multiple platforms and the fact the series does well with female viewers.

“ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER? shares so much DNA with the FOX brand that it feels only natural to return it to the schedule – it’s smart, witty, irreverent and it turns the adult/child power dynamic upside-down,” said Simon Andreae, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, Fox Broadcasting Company. “All of the core components of the classic format will be there, but we are also adding new twists that make it fresher and more fun for viewers.”
