Hulu Gives Straight-To-Series Order To Jason Reitman's 'Casual'

Hulu has given a ten episode straight-to-series order to CASUAL, a single-camera, half-hour comedy series from Lionsgate Television to be executive-produced by Oscar® nominated director Jason Reitman (Up in the Air, Juno), series writer Zander Lehmann and Reitman’s production partner Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Young Adult), the company announced today. CASUAL will debut on Hulu in 2015, with Reitman set to direct the premiere episode.

CASUAL follows the story of a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister. Together, they coach each other through the crazy world of dating (on-line and off), while living under one roof again and raising a teenager.

Syfy releases a new trailer for its anticipated adventure thriller 12 Monkeys, which will make its series premiere on Friday, January 16 at 9pm ET/PT. Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, 12 Monkeys explores the provocative story of a time traveler from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original theatrical film.

TBS Orders Pilot From Jason Jones & Samantha Bee

TBS has ordered a new scripted comedy pilot from The Daily Show's Jason Jones & Samantha Bee. Jason Jones is set to star in the pilot, which is inspired by his and Samantha Bee's own experiences with family getaways. The pilot is being produced by TBS, with a script by Jones and Bee

The comedy series will follow a family as they take a road trip to Key West. Jason Jones is set to play hopeful dad Nate, who hops in the car with his wife and two young kids for a 24-hour adventure to the Keys. This comedy will prove that no matter how much close proximity can lead a family to get on each other's nerves, precarious situations and interactions with strangers can bring them together again. Should this project get a series greenlight, plans call for each season of the show to chronicle a different trip.

NBC Gives Full Season Order To 'The Mysteries Of Laura'

Well it looks like the mysteries for Laura will continue! NBC has given a full-season 22-episode order to its 8 p.m. Wednesday drama The Mysteries of Laura.

Emmy Award winner Debra Messing stars as NYPD homicide Det. Laura Diamond, who manages to balance her time between being a police officer and that of a harried mom with two unruly young boys.

“Debra has effortlessly infused Laura with a relatability that is captivating audiences,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “We can’t wait to see how Laura will continue to evolve throughout the entire season.”

CBS Gives Full Season Orders To 'NCIS: New Orleans', 'Stalker', 'Madam Secretary', & 'Scorpion'

Fans of the four new freshman dramas at CBS have something to celebrate right now. CBS has given full season orders to all four of its new dramas, including the #1 and #2 new series of the season, NCIS: NEW ORLEANS and SCORPION, Sunday's #1 scripted broadcast, MADAM SECRETARY, and the time period-winning suspense thriller STALKER. These pick-ups include three of the top four new shows launched on television this season, and three series that rank among the top 15 of ALL prime time programs.

The four freshman dramas, along with the Network's returning hit series and NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, have helped CBS win the first four weeks of the season for the sixth consecutive year, with growth of +5% over the comparable period a year ago.

Charles Dance To Star In Syfy's 'Childhood's End'

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions today announced that Emmy nominee Charles Dance, whose numerous credits include Game of Thrones, Phantom of the Opera, Jewel in the Crown and Bleak House, will play the lead role of the alien Overlord “Karellen” in the upcoming six-hour miniseries Childhood’s End.

Adapted from Arthur C. Clarke’s classic novel, Childhood’s End will premiere on Syfy in 2015. Childhood’s End follows the peaceful invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords. Karellen (Dance), the ambassador for the Overlords, makes first contact with Earthling Ricky Stormgren. Karellen’s comforting words and amazing technological gifts quickly win humanity’s favor, beginning decades of apparent utopia at the cost of human identity and culture. However, his refusal to reveal his physical appearance and insistence on dealing only through Ricky have some people questioning whether his intentions are truly benevolent.

Damien Lewis & Paul Giamatti Cast As Leads In Showtime's 'BIllions'

Today, SHOWTIME announced that Oscar nominee and Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man) and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Damian Lewis (Homeland) have been cast in the lead roles of the complex, contemporary drama pilot BILLIONS. Written and executive produced by Brian Koppelman and David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, BILLIONS is a fictional drama that takes a forensic look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures – the hard charging, whip-smart U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti), and the brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king, Bobby "Axe" Axelrod (Lewis). Mary McCormack And Alicia Witt To Guest Star On 'House Of Lies'

Tony® Award nominee Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight) has signed on as guest star on the fourth season of the hit SHOWTIME comedy series HOUSE OF LIES. McCormack will play Denna Altshuler, a tough, highly successful white knight investor who Marty (series star and executive producer Don Cheadle in his Golden Globe® Award-winning and three-time Emmy®-nominated role) recruits to help save Kaan & Associates. Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Alicia Witt (Justified) will also guest star as Maya Lindholm, a brilliant engineer who comes to Marty’s rescue when he’s in a bind. McCormack and Witt join previously announced guest stars Larenz Tate (Rush), who returns as Marty’s brother Malcolm, and Demetri Martin (The Daily Show with John Stewart) and Valorie Curry (The Following). Lifetime Greenlights Limited Series 'Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles'

Lizzie Borden takes another whack... Lifetime has ordered the limited series Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles, in which Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award nominee Christina Ricci (Monster) will reprise her haunting role as the notorious murder suspect she portrayed in the network’s hit original movie Lizzie Borden Took An Ax (#LizzieBorden). Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Clea DuVall (Argo) will also reprise her role in the series as Lizzie Borden’s sister, Emma. The announcement was made today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime.

Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles delivers an intense and fictionalized account of actual events and people surrounding Lizzie’s life after her controversial acquittal of the horrific double murder of her father and stepmother in 1892, when the exonerated figure lives a life awash in newfound celebrity. But when numerous people close to Lizzie – ranging from her half-brother to Broadway luminaries and the head of the criminal underworld -- start to mysteriously die under brutal and strange circumstances, legendary Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo (Cole Hauser, Good Will Hunting) becomes determined to prove her involvement in their ultimate demise. Emmy nominee John Heard (The Sopranos) will portray William Almy, the business partner of Lizzie’s murdered father Andrew, while Lizzie’s half-brother William will be played by Andrew Howard (Hatfields & McCoys). Six-one hour installments of Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles will air on Lifetime in 2015.
