ABC Gives Full Season Orders To 'How to Get Away With Murder', 'black-ish'

Shonda Rhimes continues to have the magic touch over at ABC. The network just announced it was giving a full season order to the series How to Get Away With Murder. Also announced, the network has given a full season order to its freshmen comedy series black-ish starring Anthony Anderson. The announcement was made today by Paul Lee, President, ABC Entertainment Group.

“How to Get Away with Murder” was television's top series debut of the season and the biggest 10 p.m. drama debut in two years in Adults 18-49. “black-ish” opened as the #2 series debut and the #1 comedy debut on television by the same metric. Additionally, “black-ish” had the best-ever viewer retention out of “Modern Family” for any comedy debut.

Syfy Sets January 16th Premiere Date for '12 Monkeys'

Syfy’s anticipated adventure thriller 12 Monkeys will make its series premiere on Friday, January 16 at 9pm ET/PT. Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, which commemorates its 20th anniversary next year, 12 Monkeys explores the provocative story of a time traveler from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original theatrical film.

12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford (as time-traveler Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse), Barbara Sukowa (Jones) and Noah Bean (Aaron Marker). Additional key recurring roles include Tom Noonan (Damages, Hell on Wheels) as a mysterious villain and Emily Hampshire (Rookie Blue) as mental patient Jennifer Goines.

CBS Renews 'Under the Dome', 'Extant'; Cancels 'Reckless'

The ruling has come down for several summer series for the CBS. The network has decided to renew Under the Dome and Extant, while cancelling freshman series Reckless.

"We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."

The successful second season of UNDER THE DOME was the summer’s top scripted series, with 11 million viewers, 2.7/08 in adults 18-49 and 3.6/10 in adults 25-54. EXTANT, starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry, won its 10:00 PM time period with 8.64 million viewers, 1.7/06 in adults 18-49 and 2.3/07 in adults 25-54. In addition to their broadcast on the Network, UNDER THE DOME and EXTANT had additional viewing on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which provided exclusive online subscription streaming four days after the airing on CBS.

Amazon Orders Second Season Of 'Transparent'

Amazon Original Series Transparent is already breaking records. In just over a week since its debut, the critically acclaimed dark comedy, created by Jill Soloway (Afternoon Delight, Six Feet Under) and starring Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development), Judith Light (Dallas), Gaby Hoffmann (Girls), Amy Landecker (Louie) and Jay Duplass (Togetherness), is the no. 1 ranked series on Prime Instant Video since the show’s launch. Also proving popular among critics, the new show clocked in a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 98 percent critic rating, and a 91 metascore on Metacritic, making Transparent one of TV’s top three highest ranked, currently airing shows. Due to the overwhelming success of the show, and the incredibly positive viewer response, Amazon Studios has greenlit a second season of Transparent, to air in 2015.

Prime members are finding it very hard to step away from all ten episodes of Transparent. Since its debut, Transparent is the most binge-watched TV series on Prime Instant Video with nearly 80 percent of all viewers bingeing on two or more episodes of the series in the same day. This makes Transparent’s binge-factor higher than any of the other Prime Instant Video binge leaders in the past.

USA Network Sets March Premiere Date For 'Dig'; Orders Four Additional Episodes

USA Network has ordered four additional episodes of the highly anticipated event series DIG, bringing the series to a total of 10 episodes. Additionally, the network announced that the thriller will premiere on Thursday, March 5. DIG is executive produced by powerhouse auspices Tim Kring ("Heroes") and Gideon Raff ("Homeland"), and comes from Universal Cable Productions. The pilot was shot in Israel, and subsequent episodes are being shot in Croatia and New Mexico.

“We knew when we saw the exceptional pilot and immersed ourselves into the incredible world of intrigue that Tim and Gideon have created with DIG that we wanted more,” said McCumber. “With its multi-layered story, international locations, cinematic production and immensely talented cast -- DIG promises to be a must-watch event series.”

FX Greenlights 'American Horror Story' Companion Series 'American Crime Story' From Ryan Murphy

With the runaway success of the American Horror Story anthology series, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf announced the new companion series American Crime Story. The new anthology series will focus on some of the biggest true crimes and will begin with one of the most famous cases ever, the trial of O.J. Simpson. The network has given a straight-to-series order to American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson and it will consist of 10 episodes.

The first installment, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, is based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin. Murphy joins Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson (The Hunger Games, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Brad Falchuk (Glee, American Horror Story, co-created with Murphy) as Executive Producers of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, alongside writers Alexander and Karaszewski. Dante Di Loreto also serves as an Executive Producer, with Murphy set to direct. The first two hours of the miniseries will be written by Golden Globe-winning screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt, Ed Wood, Man on the Moon), who are Executive Producers of ‘ACS: O.J.’. Production begins early next year in Los Angeles. It is produced by FXP and Fox 21, the companies that co-produce the long-running hit series Sons of Anarchy for the network.

BET's 'The Game' To End Run After Season Nine

It's been a great run for the series The Game, but the game clock is starting to run down those final seconds. After renewing the comedy several months ago for an eigth season, BET has announced the the long running series will come to an end after season nine.

The Game was cancelled by The CW in 2009 and was immediately picked up by BET. The season four premiere on BET pulled in a record 7.7 million viewers. Both seasons are currently being filmed and will air in early 2015.

"All good things must come to an end and after celebrating four successful seasons of THE GAME on BET, the Network has announced production is underway on the show’s final two seasons. In January 2011 the cult following of The Game proved that the show was a fan favorite with 7.7 million viewers for its premiere debut on BET. With seasons eight and nine, we’re excited to end on a high note by giving Sabers fans a chance to bid farewell to their favorite players on and off the field."

AMC Renews 'The Walking Dead' For Sixth Season

Days away from its season five premiere, AMC announced today that it has renewed “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, for a sixth season. The season five premiere is this Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the live season premiere of “Talking Dead” at 10 p.m. ET/PT with host Chris Hardwick and this week’s guests Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Conan O’Brien.

Fox Group Promotes Nicole Bernard To EVP Audience Strategy

Nicole A. Bernard has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Audience Strategy, for The Fox Group, it was announced today by Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Television Group. Fox Audience Strategy is a department within 21st Century Fox designed to identify programming and operational opportunities that reflect diverse perspectives across all of its entertainment platforms.

“Nicole and her team continue to cultivate an incredibly productive, ongoing dialogue about who our audiences are and how to better serve them, and, more importantly, they’ve turned those conversations into action,” said Earley. “With her strategic leadership, we will continue making strides in achieving a diverse mix of people and viewpoints, in front of and behind the camera, as well as within our own ranks, which is a huge priority for Fox.”

As head of audience strategy, Ms. Bernard has collaborated with senior leaders across 21st Century Fox’s Los Angeles-based entertainment business units (filmed entertainment, broadcast television, cable television and digital media) in launching strategic initiatives to ensure that policies, content and operations reflect broadening audiences. In this role, Ms. Bernard and team developed and launched the Fox Writer’s Intensive, which is designed to nurture the careers of experienced writers with diverse voices and backgrounds, and create a strong pipeline of talent for potential staffing on Fox productions. She also expanded the company’s annual Seizing Opportunities Forum – now entering its fourth year – to become an annual cross-industry platform aimed at shifting perceptions and promoting inclusion across all areas of the entertainment business.
