Sometimes having a little faith can be a good thing. The cult classic Twin Peaks will be returning on Showtime as a limited series.

The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc.

“What more can I say – TWIN PEAKS with David Lynch and Mark Frost on SHOWTIME in 2016!” said Nevins. “To quote Agent Cooper, ‘I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.’”

Lynch and Frost added: “The mysterious and special world of Twin Peaks is pulling us back. We’re very excited. May the forest be with you.”

Over the years there have been rumors of a possible return of the show in some format and the fans of the series have always been vocal about wanting some sort of return for the series.

The limited series will consist of nine episodes and will go into production in 2015 with a premiere date set for sometime in 2016. Original show creators David Lynch and Mark Frost will write and produce all nine episodes, with Lynch directing all nine.

The series was a massive hit for ABC right out of the gate, but after the murder of Laura Palmer was solved early in Season 2, viewers began to abandon the quirky series and it was eventually cancelled after thirty episodes.

No word yet if any of the original actors will be back, but rumor has it that Kyle MacLachlan may reprise his role of FBI Agent Dale Cooper.
