All good things must come to and end and that seems to be the case for Person of Interest. The news of the possible end of the series was first reported by TVLine
Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, executive producer J.J. Abrams shared the following, ““My guess is [Season 5] is the final season and the only heartbreak there is how much good story there was to come if it were to have continued.”
With the possibility that the Season 5 finale would also serve as the series finale, Abrams said, “that was the goal. But, obviously, things can be adjusted if there a miraculous ratings performance. But I think the idea is that this would be the finale.”
These days, any series that gets cancelled, the first thing fans and people behind the series think is about moving to another network. Abrams spoke about that possibility as well, “in theory, that discussion will be had at the right time,”, “But at the moment that’s not what we’re doing.”
“Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman have done such an amazing job on the show,” Abrams continued, “and I know what these upoming episodes are the best they’ve done. We don’t yet have a schedule, but I know these episodes will see the light of day. People will get to see these episodes.”
The writing may have been on the wall early when it was announced that the fifth season of Person of Interest would shortened and only consist of 13-episodes; that is never a good sign.
Person of Interest is a crime thriller about an ex-CIA agent and a mysterious billionaire who prevent violent crimes by utilizing an all-seeing machine that can predict the events before they happen. The series stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Kevin Champman and Sarah Shahi.
