In early 2014, Bosch was one of a handful of pilots that were streamed online for free by Amazon Studios for fans to watch and vote on. After several months of fan votes and opinions, Amazon Studios decided to pick Bosch up to series. Based on the hugely successful series of books by Michael Connelly, Bosch follows LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy and at the same time is facing charges that he killed a suspected serial killer in cold blood.

Added to the mix of this intense drama is actress Annie Wersching. Annie plays Julia Brashner, a LAPD officer who has just joined the force and is looking to make a difference. Annie is definitely no stranger to our television screens as she has amassed an impressive list of credits. Most notably, she played the tough Renee Walker on the hugely popular 24 with Kiefer Sutherland and opposite Halle Berry in Extant. She’s also appeared in series such as Dallas, Revolution, Supernatural and Body of Proof. Not only will she be seen in Bosch this season, but she will also be reprising her role as Dr. Kelly Nieman on Castle and has just accepted a role on the hit CW series The Vampire Diaries.

The executives at FOX must really be enjoying the runaway success of its freshman drama Empire. The series debuted to almost 11 million viewers and over the first three weeks, the hip hop drama has increased in viewers and the all-important 18-49 demographic each week. The drama centers around a music mogul’s plans for the future of his empire as his three sons and his ex-wife battle each other to become the next heir apparent to the hip-hop throne.

One of the reasons for the success of the series is the work of actress Kaitlin Doubleday. The California native plays Rhonda Lyon, wife of the eldest son in the Lyon family who may be the one that is actually pulling all the strings.

Kaitlin sits down with the Pop Culture Principle to discuss her new role, why playing a strong, confident character was important to her and why it’s a good thing the people behind Empire tackle some of the biggest social issues today.

In the world of film and television, it can sometimes be a competitive and difficult road to travel. Constant auditions, rejections and sometimes not knowing when your next job is going to be. You need to be a special breed of person in order to navigate those rough waters.

One up and coming actress who is definitely handling the rough waters and staying grounded is Canadian born actress Elysia Rotaru. She recently joined several friends and starred in the Crazy 8s film project Earthlickers, which recently premiered at the Whistler Film Festival. The film is about a barren post-apocalyptic future, where seven sexy Goddesses (X,T,C,O,R,G,Y) of the Merkabatron descend upon a wretched Earth to convey the message that the Vibration of Love can heal all. Now, the movie may sound a bit out there, but it does have a serious message that the filmmakers want you to understand.

AMC’s The Killing just recently finished a four season turbulent run. The series premiered to critical acclaim, but didn’t seem to fully connect with viewers. After two seasons, the network cancelled the series. After an outcry from fans, the network decided to bring the series back for a third season. Again, the show was praised by critics, but just reached its core audience. For the second time, AMC decided to cancel the series. In steps Netflix, who picked the series up for a six episode final fourth season to close out the story for its devoted fans. One of the reasons that show received its loyal fanbase was the work of actor Eric Ladin who played the campaign manager of Mayoral candidate Darren Richmond (Billy Campbell) in the first two seasons.

Let’s not throw all of Eric’s eggs in The Killing’s basket as he enjoys a very successful career. He’s played J. Edgar Hoover in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, appeared in multiple episode arcs on series such as Mad Men, Big Love and Surface.
