Lifetime Cancels 'Witches Of East End'

SeasonPromo6

After a thrilling season two finale that would have setup a great premiere for season three, Lifetime has decided to cancel Witches of East End after two seasons.

Witches of East End was based on the book of the same name by Melissa de la Cruz. The series starred Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Rachel Boston and Madchen Amick as a family of witches living and dealing with their powers and trying to keep those powers from being discovered.

"Thank you to everyone who went on this extraordinary journey with us," Boston tweeted after the cancellation news. "Your love, kindness, and support is forever magic."

Although the series had a strong social media presence, that didn't translate to viewers. Season one of the supernatural series averaged 1.67 viewers and in season two, that number dropped to 1.13 million viewers.

Lizzie Borden takes another whack... Lifetime has ordered the limited series Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles, in which Golden Globe® and Emmy® Award nominee Christina Ricci (Monster) will reprise her haunting role as the notorious murder suspect she portrayed in the network’s hit original movie Lizzie Borden Took An Ax (#LizzieBorden). Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Clea DuVall (Argo) will also reprise her role in the series as Lizzie Borden’s sister, Emma. The announcement was made today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime.

Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles delivers an intense and fictionalized account of actual events and people surrounding Lizzie’s life after her controversial acquittal of the horrific double murder of her father and stepmother in 1892, when the exonerated figure lives a life awash in newfound celebrity. But when numerous people close to Lizzie – ranging from her half-brother to Broadway luminaries and the head of the criminal underworld -- start to mysteriously die under brutal and strange circumstances, legendary Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo (Cole Hauser, Good Will Hunting) becomes determined to prove her involvement in their ultimate demise. Emmy nominee John Heard (The Sopranos) will portray William Almy, the business partner of Lizzie’s murdered father Andrew, while Lizzie’s half-brother William will be played by Andrew Howard (Hatfields & McCoys). Six-one hour installments of Lizzie Borden: The Fall River Chronicles will air on Lifetime in 2015.

It’s been a Devious two years at Lifetime and the network is set to get even more Devious in 2015. Lifetime has renewed its hit series Devious Maids (#DeviousMaids, #DeviousArmy) for a third season, placing a 13-episode order for the program executive produced by Marc Cherry and Eva Longoria, and starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramírez, Roselyn Sánchez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes and Susan Lucci. Produced by ABC Studios, Devious Maids will return next year. The announcement was made today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Devious Maids back for another season. Marc Cherry has created a uniquely twisted world that blends his comic wit with devilishly ingenious characters and plot twists,” said Sharenow.

Season two of Devious Maids, which concluded July 13th, fueled Lifetime to be the number one cable network in its Sunday 10-11pm time period with Total Females, Women 18+, Women 25-54 and Women 18-49. In its freshman season, the series was Lifetime’s fastest-growing drama ever.
