Syfy Promotes Chris Regina To Senior Vice-President Of Program Strategy

Syfy today announced that Chris Regina, one of the key architects behind Syfy’s successful acquisitions strategy and the pop culture sensation Sharknado, has been promoted to the position of Senior Vice President, Program Strategy, Syfy and Chiller.

Based in the channel’s New York office, Regina will now report directly to Dave Howe, President, Syfy and Chiller.

In making the announcement, Howe said: “Chris has done a remarkable job building a solid primetime schedule with smart, on-the-brand acquisitions and co-productions, along with being the driving force behind the Sharknado global social media phenomenon. We look forward to his many contributions to the growth of Syfy in the years to come.”

Julian McMahon & Daisy Betts Join Syfy's 'Childhood's End'

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions today announced that Golden Globe nominee Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) will portray Rupert Boyce, an enigmatic American entrepreneur, in the upcoming six-hour miniseries Childhood’s End.

Adapted for the screen for the first time ever from Arthur C. Clarke’s beloved and influential novel, Childhood’s End will premiere on Syfy in 2015.

Last night, Syfy launched the first of three nights for its highly anticipated event series Ascension. The series is inspired by the real-life Project Orion that existed under the administration of President John F. Kennedy. The show sets up an alternate version of reality in which, in 1963, President Kennedy and the U.S. government, fearing the Cold War will become hot and lead to the destruction of the Earth, decided to launch a covert space mission.

One of the series stars is actress Andrea Roth who plays Dr. Juliet Bryce, head doctor of the Ascension.

'Continuum' Renewed For Fourth And Final Season

Now the fans of the hits series can catch a breath and enjoy the big news! Deadline is reporting that Continuum has been renewed for a six episode final season to finish up the show's story.

Both Canada's Showtime and Syfy have renewed the popular series. Showtime is the original home of Continuum, while the Syfy channel airs the series in the U.S.

'Krypton' Series In Development At Syfy

December 8, 2014 – Syfy and Warner Horizon Television announced today they are developing a one-hour drama series project Krypton, which will reveal a chapter of the DC Comics universe that has rarely been told.

Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

Krypton is being executive produced by David S. Goyer (Constantine, Da Vinci’s Demons, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight trilogy, upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, FlashForward) for Warner Horizon Television.

Goldberg is writing the pilot teleplay, based on a story conceived by Goyer & Goldberg.

Jason Ralph & Sosie Bacon Cast As Leads In Syfy's 'The Magicians'

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions have cast Jason Ralph (Aquarius) for the lead role of Quentin and Sosie Bacon (The Closer) as Alice, in the television adaptation of Lev Grossman’s beloved #1 New York Times best-selling book series, The Magicians. The series started production in New Orleans this week.

Additional series regular roles include the previously announced Stella Maeve as Julia, Hale Appleman as Eliot and Arjun Gupta as Penny. Acclaimed independent filmmaker Mike Cahill (I, Origins, Another Earth) will direct the pilot.

William Shatner Gets Recurring Guest Star Role On Syfy's 'Haven'

The Shat hits the fan next year on Haven! William Shatner (Star Trek) is set to guest star in a four-episode arc on the Syfy fan-favorite series in 2015. Shatner will play a pivotal character that has the potential to forever impact the fate of the town of Haven and its troubled residents.

This year, Haven (airing Fridays at 7PM ET/PT), barrels towards its game-changing mid-season finale with the last two episodes of 2014.

In “Chemistry” (airing November 28), divided loyalties put Haven’s heroes at odds with one another, while a terrifying revelation changes everything. Jay Reso – also known as WWE Superstar Christian Cage – appears in the episode, reuniting with his real-life, lifelong friend and former tag-team partner, Adam Copeland (WWE Superstar Edge Rated R), who plays Dwight. In a recurring guest role, Reso will play McHugh, one of Dwight’s oldest and closest friends.

Syfy To Adapt 3001: The Final Odyssey As Miniseries

Syfy announced today that it is working with Scott Free Productions and Warner Horizon Television to adapt the Arthur C. Clarke novel 3001: The Final Odyssey into a miniseries. StuartBeattie (Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral) will write the adaptation and serve as executive producer along with Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker. Clayton Krueger will serve as co-executive producer.

An epic story of a man lost in time, Arthur C. Clarke's final "Odyssey" book resolves the tale that was begun in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Beginning with the discovery of Frank Poole's frozen body, floating in space, 3001: The Final Odyssey offers an extraordinary range of complex characters with conflicting agendas, stunning visuals, and dark thematic meditations on the final fate of all Humankind.

Syfy and Universal Cable Productions today announced that Emmy nominee Charles Dance, whose numerous credits include Game of Thrones, Phantom of the Opera, Jewel in the Crown and Bleak House, will play the lead role of the alien Overlord “Karellen” in the upcoming six-hour miniseries Childhood’s End.

Adapted from Arthur C. Clarke’s classic novel, Childhood’s End will premiere on Syfy in 2015. Childhood’s End follows the peaceful invasion of Earth by the mysterious Overlords. Karellen (Dance), the ambassador for the Overlords, makes first contact with Earthling Ricky Stormgren. Karellen’s comforting words and amazing technological gifts quickly win humanity’s favor, beginning decades of apparent utopia at the cost of human identity and culture. However, his refusal to reveal his physical appearance and insistence on dealing only through Ricky have some people questioning whether his intentions are truly benevolent.
