In today’s society, we place a tremendous amount of pressure on ourselves as to how we look. Whether it be weight loss, plastic surgery or whatever steps someone takes to get that “perfect” look, we as a society are becoming a slave to this incredible standard we set.

With the growth of social media, it only adds another layer of pressure for all of us to look perfect and despite what you may believe or read, men are affected by this just as much as women.

In the film Thinestra, written by Avra Fox-Lerner and directed by Nathan Hertz, they take a look at this problem, but with an added horror touch. Thinestra follows a young woman who takes a new weight-loss pill and the fat she sheds returns in the form of her blood-thirsty doppelgänger.

The main character Penny, played by Michelle Macedo and her evil doppleganger, played by Melissa Macedo, take the audience on an interesting journey about body dysmorphia, disordered eating and society’s obsession with diet.
