What has come as a surprise to many, Amazon Studios has decided not to move forward with the Chris Carter series The After.
As first reported exclusively by Variety, the series would have marked Carter’s first return to television since his hit series The X-files. The After follows eight strangers who are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. The cast included Adrian Pasdar, Aldis Hodge, Jamie Kennedy and Sharon Lawrence.
The After along with Bosch were the first two dramas picked up by Amazon Studios in March of 2014. Both pilots received great fan response and that led to them both being picked up to series. This is the first time Amazon Studios has given the greenlight for a series only to rescind the order.
This isn’t the firs time Chris Carter tried to make a comeback to television. Several years ago, he shopped around a spec for the thriller Unique, but nothing ever came of it.
Now that Amazon Studios isn’t moving forward with The After, they have two other drama pilots that will be part of the next batch of pilots. Those dramas include Point of Honor from Lost’s Carlton Cuse and The Man In the High Castle from X-files alum Frank Spotnitz.
“We have decided to not move forward with ‘The After,’ ” said Price. “We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”
