Fans of the BET series Being Mary Jane have something to smile about today.
The network announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour that it had renewed its popular series Being Mary Jane for a fourth season.
“We hope to come back bigger and better than ever. I believe it will be explosive,” Union said, she added, “Can she get a dog this year?”
Originally premiering as a television movie in 2013, the series has become a solid hit for BET and has built a loyal and devoted fanbase.
So far during its run on BET, the series has been the No. 1 scripted cable series among black viewers in the 18-49 demographic.
There was concern about the series being renewed for another season after the departure of creator and showrunner Mara Brock Akil who is heading to Warner Bros. Television as part of an overall deal she and her husband signed.
As of this moment, no new showrunner has been chosen to take over the series. Being Mary Jane goes back into production in Atlanta in the summer
