FX has announced that it will not be renewing its series The Bridge for a third season. Producers of the drama are looking at other options.
“We thank our partners at FX for their tireless efforts in developing and launching ‘The Bridge’ with us. From its fresh, unique voice to its deep and diverse ensemble cast, this is a series that we are all very proud of,” said Shine America, which co-produced the series, in a statement. “From its fresh, unique voice to its deep and diverse ensemble cast, this is a series that we are all very proud of.”
The series was based on the popular Danish-Swedish series of the same name and followed two detectives on opposite sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Although The Bridge was a favorite with the critics, it never pulled in the audience and numbers the network was looking for. The series drew 1.5 million viewers for the season two premiere and struggled to crack 1 million viewers near the end of the second season.
