In the fall of 2004, ABC premiered the series LOST. It would go on to become one of the most popular shows in television history. At that time, the network couldn’t have known what type of impact that show would have on the pop culture landscape. You can put LOST right up there with other iconic series like The Twilight Zone and The X-files. But, when one network has a popular series, the other networks will try and grab on to its success with a similar show of their own.
The following Fall, the other networks debuted their “supernatural” series to the public. With CBS, they offered up Threshold, NBC had Surface, ABC tried to strike lightning again with the series Invasion and the WB entered with Supernatural. On paper, Supernatural looked like the one that wouldn’t last the longest, but boy oh boy, did that show prove them wrong. Fifteen seasons and 327 episodes later, Supernatural is right up there with LOST and The X-files as a pop culture phenomena.
On May 25th, Warner Bros. will release Supernatural: The Fifteenth and Final Season and Supernatural: The Complete series on Blu-ray. The epic journey of Sam and Dean Winchester will come to an end with the fifteenth season. Over those incredible fifteen seasons, the Winchesters have fought demons, angels, werewolves, vampires, themselves and much more. In the fifteenth and final season, it was all about going up against God.
With the fifteenth season picking up right where we left things after Season 14, the Winchesters, Jack, Castiel, Mary and others team up to fight God and bring peace and stability back to the world. You would think trying to tie things up after fifteen seasons would be a task, but the writers did a pretty good job in doing just that. Of course, we could go into more detail about the fifteenth season, but we don’t want to spoil anything for those of you who haven’t seen the season yet.
Of course, due to the pandemic, the show shut down production right as they were about to start shooting the final two episodes of the season. The original ending had to be scrapped and an entirely new ending was written. Again, no spoilers here, but we think the ending that we did get was probably the best one. Again, you’ll have to make that decision yourself, but the new ending did split the fandom.
With Supernatural: The Fifteenth and Final Season, you get all twenty episodes plus some incredible extra features:
· Supernatural: The End of the Road (New)
· Supernatural: Family Don’t End in Blood (New)
· Gag Reel (New)
· Deleted Scenes (New)
· Supernatural: 2019 Comic-Con Panel
· Winning Baby: A Supernatural Giveaway
· Winchester Mythology: Midwestern Heroes
· Supernatural: The Long Road Home – Special Retrospective Episode
Fifteen seasons is a long time for a series, especially a genre series to be on the air, but for us, the show never really seemed stale. Of course, with a show on that long, it will have its creative ups and downs, (hello Season 7), but for the most part, Supernatural was one hell of a ride and at the end of the day, isn’t that all we want from our television viewing?
Thank you Sam and Dean Winchester. Carry on!
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Supernatural: The Fifteenth & Final Season and Supernatural: The Complete Series will be available on Blu-ray & DVD on May 25th from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
